Sources: Clubs in race to sign Colchester United's Jack Payne after contract twist

Colchester United midfielder Payne is attracting interest from League One and League Two clubs as his contract enters its final year with no renewal offer.

Jack Payne, 31, has caught the attention of multiple Football League clubs after Colchester United failed to offer him a new contract despite less than a year remaining on his current deal. The attacking midfielder has made 10 appearances this season, including nine starts, and remains important to manager Danny Cowley's plans. With no new deal on the horizon, rival clubs are now monitoring the situation with a view to signing him on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
