I starred in Sebastien Pocognoli's homeland and now playing best football of my life – I hope Scotland boss is watching

Bates, playing top form for Turkish leaders Amedspor, hopes new Scotland manager Pocognoli will recall him after seven years away.

David Bates, the 29-year-old former Rangers defender, is in career-best form for Turkish top-flight side Amedspor, who currently lead the league. Playing under ex-Mechelen coach Besnik Hasi, Bates has spent the last four years in the Belgian Pro League before his summer move to Turkey. With only four Scotland caps to his name and his last appearance seven years ago, Bates is hopeful that new Scotland manager Sebastien Pocognoli—himself Belgian and familiar with the standard of play in that region—will notice his performances and offer him a recall to the national squad.
