From left winger to centre-back: 'Schouten is truly a monster'

AZ academy staff praise Schouten's transformation from left winger to centre-back, crediting his willpower after overcoming serious injuries during his youth development.

Lewis Schouten has impressed AZ's academy leadership with his evolution from a left winger when first scouted at HSV Heiloo to a commanding centre-back in the club's youth system. Head of academy Paul Brandenburg and head of youth scouting Fred Luesken highlight Schouten's technical ability, composure on the ball, and forward-thinking play. Despite suffering severe injuries that sidelined him for 18 months during his youth career, Schouten's determination and passion for the game—including volunteering to coach children in Curaçao during his holidays—have been instrumental in his development. The academy staff remained committed to his talent throughout his recovery.
