Why Willem II parted ways with John Stegeman: 'I don't see hoping as a policy'

Willem II sacked manager John Stegeman after a 1-1 draw at Sparta Rotterdam, with technical director Freek Heerkens citing insufficient perspective and performance.

Willem II dismissed manager John Stegeman on Monday following the club's 1-1 draw at Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday, their ninth match without a win since returning to the Eredivisie. Technical director Freek Heerkens explained that despite Stegeman's belief in the team's potential, the evaluation after the match revealed a lack of confidence in his ability to lead the side forward. Heerkens stated: 'Overall it has been insufficient.' The decision was made after a Monday morning meeting between Stegeman and the club's technical staff.
