Palladino's insights

Palladino has transformed Bologna's approach, prioritizing defensive stability and pressing over possession, earning back-to-back away wins and a clean sheet.

Bologna continued their away-form resurgence under Raffaele Palladino with a 2-0 victory at Cagliari, their third consecutive win on the road. Matteo Casale and Federico Bernardeschi scored as Bologna kept their first clean sheet of the season.

Palladino has fundamentally shifted Bologna's tactical identity from the possession-heavy approach that defined last season. Rather than chasing ball dominance, the new manager has rebuilt defensive solidity with a reorganized back line featuring experienced Italian players, added pressing intensity, and clinical transitions. The results speak for themselves: two wins at Lecce and Cagliari, plus a draw with Torino since his arrival, with possession no longer the priority.

Bologna now travel to Milan on Wednesday seeking to build on this momentum, though the club still awaits a solution at centre-forward. Bernardeschi has emerged as the creative fulcrum, compensating for the lack of a reliable goalscorer with his inventiveness and set-piece threat.
