Sources: Liverpool's four-man defender shortlist revealed

Liverpool monitoring four centre-back targets including Dortmund's Schlotterbeck, Nottingham Forest's Murillo, Inter's Bastoni and Barcelona's Kounde as Van Dijk and Gomez near contract expiry.

Liverpool are preparing for a defensive overhaul with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez approaching the end of their contracts next summer. The Reds have identified four centre-back targets: Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck, who signed a new deal with the German club earlier this year but remains on Liverpool's radar; Nottingham Forest's Murillo, a key Premier League performer; Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni, a regular starter out of contract in 2028; and Barcelona's Jules Kounde, who has struggled for consistency this season and whose future at Camp Nou is uncertain.

Liverpool explored a move for Schlotterbeck in the summer but will likely need to pursue their targets over the next two transfer windows. The club is expected to retain Ronald Araujo permanently following his loan spell, though his long-term future under manager Andoni Iraola could see him deployed at right-back.
