Ex-Villa scout wowed by four Aston Villa signings - 'extremely impressive'

Ex-Villa scout Bryan King praised the club's summer signings after four of them starred in Saturday's 2-1 win over Manchester City.

Former Aston Villa senior scout Bryan King has given his backing to the club's summer recruitment strategy following an impressive 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday. Four of Villa's summer signings started the match, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice, while Leon Goretzka and Alysson also made impacts off the bench.

King told Football Insider that the new arrivals—including Manzambi, Jackson, Mbaye, Goretzka, Suzuki, and Gomes—have settled quickly and are performing at a high level. "All of them seem to be certainly performing extremely well," he said. "They're starting to look like a half-decent team." Villa have now won four consecutive matches and seven of their last eight games across all competitions.

The signings came after Villa sold six players from last season's Europa League final squad, drawing initial criticism for replacing them with younger, less experienced talent. However, recent form has vindicated the recruitment approach. King highlighted the club's willingness to invest the funds received from player sales, noting they "went out and spent the money" to strengthen the squad.
