Andoni Iraola issues injury update as Liverpool wait on three players for Chelsea

Iraola expects Wirtz available for Chelsea after ankle knock; Szoboszlai and Munoz unlikely but not ruled out.

Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola provided an injury update ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup fourth-round clash against Chelsea at Anfield. Florian Wirtz, who was forced off during Sunday's Premier League win over Brighton with an ankle injury, is expected to be available. "He was quite fine, Florian – I'm quite optimistic that he will be available," Iraola said at his Tuesday lunchtime press conference.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz remain doubts after missing the last two matches with injuries sustained during the win at Brentford earlier this month. Iraola refused to completely rule them out but acknowledged recovery would be more difficult than Wirtz's. "With Dom and Victor, I'm not so sure. I don't want to say no, but I think it's going to be more difficult than Florian, yes."

On a positive note, 20-year-old striker Jayden Danns continues his recovery after serious injury setbacks. He has been building fitness with the under-21s and recently scored in a Premier League 2 fixture. Iraola believes Danns is progressing well and hopes he will soon push for regular first-team involvement. Liverpool remain without Jeremie Frimpong and the long-term injured trio of Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni.
