Harry Kane's first club celebrates Ballon d'Or win

Kane's youth club Ridgeway Rovers celebrates after the Bayern Munich striker won the Ballon d'Or on Monday night, ending England's 25-year wait for the award.

Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or on Monday night, becoming the world's best male footballer and men's striker of the year. The 33-year-old Bayern Munich captain ended England's 25-year drought for the award.

Ridgeway Rovers FC in Walthamstow, where Kane played as a boy, celebrated the achievement. Chairman Ian Marshall said he was emotional during the awards, praising Kane's "hard work" and self-belief. Alex Welsh, a former Arsenal academy coach who once tried to convert the young Kane into a goalkeeper, called the win "fully deserved" and described Kane as a brilliant role model for aspiring players.

Marshall noted that few clubs can claim to have produced a Ballon d'Or winner, and said Ridgeway Rovers was considering paying tribute to Kane's achievement on their kit. Young players at the club said Kane's success inspired them to pursue professional football.
