Urgent decision at Manchester United over Michael Carrick

Manchester United held an emergency board meeting Monday; Carrick stays for now but faces match-by-match evaluation after 12 games with just 2 wins, 4 draws and 6 losses.

Manchester United's board held an emergency meeting on Monday with CEO Omar Berrada, football director Jason Wilcox, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and owners Joel and Avram Glazer to discuss Michael Carrick's future as manager. The decision was to retain Carrick but evaluate him on a game-by-game basis.

Carrick's record this season stands at 2 wins, 4 draws and 6 losses from 12 matches. Recent heavy defeats—a 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League and a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth—have intensified pressure on the manager and the club's ownership. Manchester United has not won the Premier League since 2012-13 and currently sits 16th in the table.

Carrick's immediate test comes Saturday at Chelsea in the Premier League, followed by Europa League matches against Roma and Aston Villa. Alternative candidates including Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Unai Emery have been mentioned in recent speculation, but the board has given Carrick a temporary reprieve to turn around the team's form.
