Martin Odegaard calls on Arsenal to 'step up' after Fleetwood humiliation

Arsenal captain Odegaard demands immediate response after shock Carabao Cup exit to League Two Fleetwood on penalties, with Liverpool awaiting at Anfield this weekend.

Arsenal crashed out of the Carabao Cup in stunning fashion on Tuesday, losing to League Two side Fleetwood Town on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Despite making nine changes, the Gunners trailed to Aaron Loupalo-Bi's 21st-minute goal and struggled in the opening period. Martin Odegaard's introduction at half-time improved Arsenal's play, and Viktor Gyokeres equalised, but the team squandered chances to win it. Fleetwood goalkeeper Lynch made two crucial saves in injury time to force a shootout, which Fleetwood won after Bruno Guimaraes' penalty was saved.

Odegaard called for Arsenal to move past the disappointment immediately, saying the team "need to step up even more" and cannot "feel sorry for ourselves." Manager Mikel Arteta gracefully acknowledged Fleetwood's achievement, saying "that is why football is entertainment." Arsenal now face a crucial test at Liverpool this weekend as they bid to maintain their title challenge after drawing level with Manchester City in the Premier League.
