Dany Freire awaiting imminent clearance to play

Portuguese forward Freire awaits FIFA registration clearance to make his competitive debut; resolution expected within two weeks.

Barcelona announced the signing of Portuguese forward Dany Freire in September after he turned 16, following an impressive trial and preseason with the club's Juvenil B side. He has since trained with the squad and featured in friendly matches, even scoring and earning MVP honours in one preparation game, but remains unable to play in official competition due to registration bureaucracy.

The registration process is now in FIFA's hands, with both Barcelona and the relevant authorities expressing optimism. The club expects the final clearance to come through within the next two weeks. Freire has already earned his first call-up to Portugal's U-17 squad since joining Barcelona.
