Celtic issue 'reward' to Colby Donovan after terms agreed

Celtic right-back Colby Donovan has signed a new contract extending his deal until summer 2031, rewarding his breakthrough season and development into a first-team regular.

Colby Donovan has penned a new contract with Celtic, keeping him at Parkhead until the summer of 2031. The 20-year-old right-back has impressed manager Martin O'Neill and the board with his vast improvement over the last 12 months, becoming a first-team regular and providing capable cover for Alistair Johnston. Donovan has made 17 appearances for Celtic this season and started in eight of the opening 10 league games. The boyhood Celtic fan enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last term and has continued that form this season, with O'Neill's coaching staff already trusting him to handle big European nights. Donovan was handed his first senior Scotland call-up in September and is expected to become a regular in the international setup. The new deal provides long-term security after his previous contract was due to expire in summer 2028.
