Michael Carrick says he will be in charge for Manchester United's next game

Carrick expects to remain in charge for Tuesday's Champions League trip to Roma despite fresh calls for his sacking after a 2-0 loss to Chelsea.

Michael Carrick expects to be in charge of Manchester United for their Champions League match against Roma on Tuesday, despite mounting pressure following a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

United's board considered sacking Carrick after a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend, with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox holding talks at Carrington on Monday before deciding he would continue. Fresh calls for his dismissal have emerged after the Chelsea loss, which leaves United winless in nine games and with just two wins from 13 across all competitions.

Carrick felt his side played well in the first half at Stamford Bridge but failed to take their chances. "The way they went about it and played, the quality of football and the way we played in the first half definitely gives encouragement," he said. He acknowledged the second half became difficult after United conceded a goal and were reduced to ten men. The manager praised United's away supporters for their backing throughout the match.
