"I think he made a great mistake going to Real Madrid and now they want him to leave"

Carragher says Alexander-Arnold made a mistake joining Real Madrid and would welcome his return to Liverpool as he struggles for minutes under Mourinho.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is enduring his worst spell since arriving at Real Madrid in June 2025. The right-back has featured in only seven of the club's 13 league matches this season, starting just four times, and has provided a single assist in a 4-0 home win over Málaga.

The arrival of Dumfries has limited his opportunities, leaving him third-choice in his position behind even Fede Valverde. Speculation has grown about a potential January departure, though it remains unlikely at present.

Jamie Carragher has publicly stated he would bring Alexander-Arnold back to Liverpool. Speaking on The Overlap, the former Liverpool defender said: "I think he made a great mistake going to Madrid." Carragher added that Liverpool has missed his creativity and that as a third-choice option at Real Madrid, "obviously they want him to go." Alexander-Arnold faces the additional concern of missing out on Thomas Tuchel's England squad announcement on 6 November due to his lack of playing time.
