Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shows true colours after private Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox chat

Solskjaer revealed he backed Carrick for the Manchester United job during private talks with Berrada and Wilcox, despite being in contention himself.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has disclosed that he supported Michael Carrick's candidacy for the Manchester United manager role during confidential discussions with club officials Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, even though Solskjaer was himself being considered for the position.

Solskjaer, who managed United from 2018 to 2021, told TV2: "When I spoke to United, I also boasted about Michael - 'If you choose him, you will get a good man,' I said." The former manager emphasised that there were no formal negotiations and that he made no demands regarding wages or contract length. He described the conversation as "one small chat" where he offered input on what the club needed to move forward.

The 53-year-old acknowledged he still harbours ambitions to return to Old Trafford, saying "I also feel like I have something unresolved," but maintained that Carrick remains the right choice despite United's recent struggles. Carrick is currently under pressure following nine matches without a win, with the club reportedly considering alternatives including Eddie Howe and Julian Naglesmann.
