Southampton's long, redemptive road back from 'spygate'

Southampton aim for promotion after being expelled from last season's playoffs over an illegal spying scandal.

Southampton are attempting to bounce back from one of English football's most damaging scandals. Last season, the club was expelled from the Championship playoffs after being caught conducting illegal surveillance on opponents' training sessions — a breach that cost them a chance at promotion to the Premier League.

Now, under new management and with lessons learned, Southampton are working to rebuild both on and off the pitch. The club faces the dual challenge of competing for promotion while processing the institutional damage caused by the scandal and restoring trust with fans, rivals and the wider football community.
