Jim Goodwin backs Dundee Utd star for Scotland call up with metrics 'through the roof'

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin believes midfielder Dylan Tait's outstanding form this season warrants a Scotland call-up under new manager Sebastien Pocognoli.

Jim Goodwin has backed Dundee United midfielder Dylan Tait to break into Sebastien Pocognoli's Scotland squad, citing his standout performances in the Scottish Premiership this season. The United boss acknowledged the competition for places in midfield, with established internationals like Billy Gilmour, Scott McTominay, John McGinn, Kenny McLean and Lewis Ferguson ahead in the pecking order. However, Goodwin noted that several of those players are moving towards the latter stages of their international careers, creating opportunities for younger talent.

Goodwin paid Tait the highest compliment, saying he has been even better than expected since joining from Falkirk on a free transfer in the summer. The 24-year-old has been handed the captain's armband and is thriving in United's midfield alongside Zidane Iqbal and Lyall Cameron. Goodwin highlighted Tait's progressive passing statistics as exceptional, describing them as "through the roof" and central to how United play. The manager believes if Tait maintains those levels while playing in a successful Dundee United team, Pocognoli will find it hard to ignore him.
