Como make Champions League era history with incredible nine-goal mauling

Como thrashed Lens 9-1 in the Champions League, with Douvikas scoring a hat-trick in a record-breaking away victory that equals the biggest win in the competition's modern history.

Como produced a stunning performance to demolish Lens 9-1 in the Champions League, continuing their remarkable debut European campaign under Cesc Fabregas. Anastasios Douvikas led the charge with a hat-trick, scoring twice in the first half before completing his treble after the break. Nico Paz added a third before half-time to put Como 3-0 up, and the Italian side exploded in the second half with six more goals. Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina and Matteo Papaccioli all scored, with Ruben Aguilar grabbing a consolation for Lens on 65 minutes.

The result saw Como climb to fourth in the Champions League league phase table with nine points from four games. The eight-goal margin equalled the biggest victory in Champions League history since 1992, matching Liverpool's 4-0 win over Besiktas in 2007 and Real Madrid's 8-0 victory against Malmo in 2015. Como became only the second team after Bayern Munich to score nine goals in a Champions League match, and made further history by recording the first nine-goal away win in the competition's modern era — the first team to achieve such a scoreline away from home in 45 years overall.
