Andoni Iraola addresses Alisson Becker's Liverpool future after conceding 'messy' goals

Iraola hopes Alisson extends his deal beyond 2027 but says the decision ultimately rests with the player, while defending the goalkeeper after recent errors.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has addressed speculation over Alisson Becker's future at Anfield, expressing hope that the Brazilian goalkeeper will commit to a new contract beyond his current deal which runs until summer 2027.

Alisson's contract was extended by one year earlier this year, but Juventus showed interest in the summer and there remains a genuine prospect he could leave as a free agent next year. Iraola confirmed he has held ongoing conversations with sporting director Julian Ward about the matter but stressed that the final decision belongs to the player himself.

"I hope not, I hope he continues with us for more time," Iraola said. "But when you ask me about contracts and these situations, it is a matter for the players and the club. Yes we have continuous conversations with Julian but I cannot tell you everything."

Iraola also defended Alisson following criticism of his performance in recent defeats to Arsenal and Fenerbahce, arguing that the goals conceded were the result of collective defensive breakdowns rather than individual errors. He acknowledged mistakes in Liverpool's build-up play but noted that eight defenders were in position when the goals were scored.
