Tottenham could offer €80m for La Liga star – Xavi Simons injury behind interest

Spurs weighing €80m January bid for Atlético Madrid's Álex Baena after Xavi Simons injury prompted attacking search.

Tottenham are considering an €80m offer for Atlético Madrid attacker Álex Baena in January, according to Spanish newspaper La Razón. The 25-year-old has impressed this season with four goals and two assists in nine appearances. Spurs' interest follows an injury to Xavi Simons and comes as Manchester City, Newcastle and Aston Villa have also been linked with the player. The potential bid would nearly double the €42m Atlético paid Villarreal for Baena last summer.
