Tottenham board 'spot on' with De Zerbi call after 'talks' - expert

Tottenham's board backed De Zerbi through early-season struggles; Spurs have now won back-to-back league games after beating Chelsea.

Tottenham's board have been praised for standing by manager Roberto De Zerbi despite a difficult start to the season that saw Spurs go four Premier League games without a goal and six without a win.

Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider the board made the right call by not sacking De Zerbi when pressure mounted. "They always planned to stick by De Zerbi, and since they brought him in last season they have been adamant that he will be the right man to help them make progress," Brown said. "They did hold talks about where they wanted to go when the pressure was ramping up, but ultimately came to the right decision."

Spurs have since turned things around, winning 2-0 against Chelsea and securing back-to-back league victories. Brown acknowledged ongoing concerns about Tottenham's lack of a natural goalscorer but credited the board for their patience. "That mood is lifting, things are improving, and it's only fair to give the board praise for the decision they made over De Zerbi's future," he added.
