The time Souness rejected move from Liverpool to Barcelona

Souness reveals he turned down Barcelona's two-year offer in 1984, choosing Sampdoria instead because he needed a three-year deal.

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has disclosed that he rejected a move to Barcelona when leaving Anfield in 1984, shortly after winning the European Cup against Roma. Barcelona offered him a two-year contract, but Souness declined because he required a three-year deal. Instead, he joined Italian club Sampdoria for £650,000, citing Italy as the premier destination for world-class players at the time. Souness went on to win an Italian Cup with Sampdoria before becoming Rangers player-manager in 1986.
