Newcastle United not giving up on signing Sporting player – Also on bargain-eager Brentford's radar

Newcastle and Brentford remain interested in Venezia midfielder Doumbia, who joined Sporting for €20m in summer but has attracted fresh attention from English clubs.

Issa Doumbia, 22, joined Sporting CP in July for €20m plus €6m in bonuses after impressing at Venezia, where he scored 10 goals and provided six assists in Serie B. Newcastle United and Brentford, who both pursued him before his move to Portugal, have maintained their interest alongside Juventus and AS Roma. Sporting's title challenge and Champions League participation were key factors in convincing Doumbia to join the Portuguese club, but English suitors remain monitoring the situation.
