Opta predicts bright European future for Ajax, Twente, AZ and NEC

Opta's model gives Ajax 92.5%, Twente 99.5%, AZ 94% and NEC 65.7% chances of reaching the group stage proper in their respective European competitions.

Statistical analysis firm Opta has released its predictions for four Dutch clubs' European prospects. Ajax, fresh off a 2-0 Conference League win over Atalanta, has a 92.5% chance of finishing in the top 24 and reaching the knockout phase, with a 23.3% shot at the top eight. FC Twente's odds look even better following their 4-1 victory over Lincoln Red Imps: 99.5% to advance and 65% to finish in the top eight. AZ, after demolishing Ararat-Armenia 4-0 in the Europa League, sits at 94% to progress and 19% for the top eight. NEC faces the steepest climb despite a 4-2 away win at Dinamo Zagreb, with only 65.7% to advance and just 3.4% for the top eight after their heavy loss to Juventus.
