Spygate put me in a difficult position - Spors

Southampton technical director Spors reflects on the uncertainty caused by the Spygate scandal and the club's decision to back manager Eckert despite the FA investigation.

Southampton group technical director Johannes Spors has spoken about the challenges posed by the Spygate scandal over the summer. The club was deducted four points in May after admitting to spying on three Championship opponents, and manager Tonda Eckert faced potential disciplinary action from the FA. Despite the uncertainty, Southampton backed Eckert, and in early October the FA fined him £28,000 with a suspended six-week ban. Spors said the situation put him in a difficult position while planning for the season, but he was aligned with owner Dragan Solak on supporting the manager.
