'I know how it goes' – EFL boss resigned to potential sacking as he apologises to fans

Burnley manager Hayen apologised to fans after a 4-1 loss to Lincoln left the Clarets in the relegation zone with just one win in 12 games.

Burnley manager Vincent Hayen acknowledged he faces potential dismissal after his side's sixth loss in 12 games, a 4-1 thrashing at newly-promoted Lincoln City on Saturday. The Clarets, relegated from the Premier League last season, sit 22nd in the Championship with only one victory all campaign, despite taking the lead against Lincoln.

When asked if he fears being sacked, Hayen told talkSPORT: "I know how it goes in football, especially with the results we have had in the last few weeks." He apologised to the fans, saying: "I also feel sorry for the fans as there were a lot of fans here, so I do apologise. I know even if I apologise to them it doesn't matter because again we have a big loss."

Hayen admitted the team cannot replicate their training-ground form in matches, but expressed hope to continue. Burnley legend Ben Mee suggested the manager may be heading for the exit, citing a lack of cohesion in the squad and questioning whether some players' focus remains on the club after failed summer moves.
