Gary Neville issues Michael Carrick sack verdict with Manchester United boss on the brink

Neville says Carrick's sacking is "probably necessary" after United's 3-0 loss to Bournemouth left them 16th in the Premier League.

Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, extending their winless run to eight matches and intensifying pressure on manager Michael Carrick. The loss came after a midweek Champions League defeat to Como, and reports suggest Carrick will not survive the latest embarrassment.

Gary Neville, speaking on Sky Sports commentary, acknowledged that while Carrick's dismissal will not solve United's deep-rooted problems, a change is "probably necessary" to help the club move forward. Neville pointed criticism at the club's executives Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada, saying their decision to sack Carrick "will disgust Manchester United fans, but is probably necessary."

Fans sang Carrick's name as he left the pitch but then booed the squad, reflecting frustration with years of poor transfer decisions. Jamie Carragher added that the change is needed urgently, arguing it would be in Carrick's own interest to leave given the emotional toll.
