Chelsea's new Xabi Alonso 'concerns' assessed after 'amazing' players flop

Chelsea's board backs Alonso despite tactical questions after the 2-0 Tottenham loss; defensive frailties remain a concern with 15 goals conceded in eight PL games.

Chelsea suffered a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, their third loss of the season, prompting questions about manager Xabi Alonso's tactical approach and team selection. Some observers noted the side looked disorganised, with suggestions Alonso may be overcomplicating his setup.

However, the Chelsea board has expressed confidence in Alonso and is backing him to succeed. Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider the club understands it will take time for the new manager to reshape the team into a consistent unit. Alonso himself has insisted the side will improve significantly by May.

Defensive vulnerability remains a pressing issue. Chelsea have kept just two clean sheets in ten games across all competitions and have conceded 15 goals in eight Premier League matches—more than any other side in the top half. If the club is to challenge for the title, Alonso must address these defensive frailties on the training ground.
