Harry Kane explains cryptic message after winning Ballon d'Or

Kane won the 2026 Ballon d'Or, becoming the first English player to claim the award in 25 years, and explained his post-victory quote reflected his career philosophy of working quietly behind the scenes.

Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d'Or on Tuesday night at a ceremony in London, becoming the first English player to win the prestigious award in 25 years since Michael Owen in 2001. The Bayern Munich striker scored 73 goals for club and country last season, including a new Bayern single-season record of 61 goals in 51 club games.

After his victory, Kane shared a quote on social media: "Work hard in silence. Let success be your noise." Some interpreted this as commentary on his quiet approach to the ceremony compared to fellow contenders Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe, who gave interviews about their cases for the award.

Kane clarified the quote's meaning to Sky Sports, explaining it has guided his entire career. "I like to do the work behind the scenes. Sometimes when no one is watching is the best time to improve, let everything else explode on the pitch," he said. Kane reflected on his patience throughout his career, including four loan spells away from Tottenham before establishing himself as one of the club's greatest players over a 10-year spell, followed by his 2023 move to Bayern that elevated his game further.
