When Kane's name was called, Mbappe remained seated as Kane embraced him, while Lamine Yamal—who finished third—was criticised for not standing to fully greet the winner, in contrast to his Barcelona and Spain teammate Rodri who rose to congratulate Kane. During Kane's acceptance speech, the camera caught Yamal looking away and down, prompting social media users to turn the moment into memes.
