Alexia Putellas wins third Ballon d'Or Féminin to match Bonmatí's record

Putellas wins her third Ballon d'Or Féminin, matching Bonmatí's record and becoming the first WSL player to claim the award.

Alexia Putellas has won the Ballon d'Or Féminin for the third time, drawing level with Spain team-mate Aitana Bonmatí on three wins. The London City Lionesses midfielder picked up the award on Monday night, finishing ahead of Barcelona's Ewa Pajor and Manchester City's Khadija Shaw.

Putellas first won the prize in 2021 and retained it in 2022, before Bonmatí claimed three consecutive victories from 2023 to 2025. The 32-year-old's latest win carries particular significance given her recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered on the eve of Euro 2022. In her final season at Barcelona, she captained the side to a quadruple including a fourth Champions League title in six years, recording 21 goals and 13 assists across all competitions. She also created more chances (89) and completed more passes into the final third (965) than any other player across Liga F, the Champions League and domestic cups.

After 14 years at Barcelona, Putellas joined London City Lionesses in July, becoming the first WSL player ever to win the Ballon d'Or Féminin. She has made an immediate impact with three goals and an assist in seven WSL appearances, including a brace in a 6-1 victory over Tottenham.
