Verheydt hopes to end Helmond Sport away curse

Willem II striker Verheydt has never won away at Helmond Sport across six visits with various clubs, drawing four times and losing twice.

Thomas Verheydt faces an unusual curse ahead of Willem II's KNVB Cup first-round tie at Helmond Sport on Tuesday. The striker has visited the stadium six times in his career with different clubs but has never recorded a victory there, drawing four matches and losing two.

Remarkably, even when Verheydt missed matches through injury, his teams still failed to win at Helmond Sport. MVV Maastricht and Almere City both lost away fixtures there without him in the squad.

Verheydt joked about the streak in an ESPN interview, fumbling his words while saying the away trip was "never difficult, uh, never hard. Never, uh, easy." He remains optimistic about breaking the pattern, saying "We'll do our best and I think we're obliged by our position to win there." He has won at Helmond Sport before, but only in home matches.
