Celtic update on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's future

Celtic will decide on Oxlade-Chamberlain's future at season's end; the midfielder must impress manager O'Neill to earn a new deal.

Celtic have no immediate plans to resolve Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's contract situation, with sources telling Football Insider the club will make a late decision once the season concludes. The 33-year-old midfielder, who joined as a free agent mid-season last year and helped secure the Scottish Premiership title, has made six appearances this term but hasn't started since 2 September. Manager Martin O'Neill has significant midfield depth, with Callum McGregor and Mika Baur ahead in the pecking order, while Benjamin Nygren occupies the attacking midfield role. The ball is in Oxlade-Chamberlain's court; Celtic are willing to offer a new contract if he can prove his worth over the remainder of the campaign. This mirrors the club's approach in the summer when they triggered a last-minute extension for the former Liverpool player.
