Manolo González, devastated: "One of the worst days of my life"

former Espanyol manager Manolo González expressed devastation after a 4-3 Copa del Rey loss to Sestao, calling it one of the worst days of his life and appearing to hint at his future.

RCD Espanyol suffered a third consecutive Copa del Rey embarrassment, losing 4-3 to Sestao in a match that has left manager Manolo González's position in serious doubt.

González addressed the media after the defeat, visibly distressed and repeating multiple times that it was "one of the worst days of my life". He lamented defensive errors, particularly goals conceded from set pieces and a moment where half the team slipped during one goal. "We concede goals that cannot be conceded at a professional level," he said, highlighting lapses in concentration that proved costly.

The manager, who has been in charge for two and a half years, expressed regret over how the match unfolded despite Espanyol taking the lead at various points. When asked about his future, González appeared evasive, saying he needed time to reflect and was unsure what would happen next. His comments in past tense about his time at the club fuelled speculation about an imminent departure.
