Where does Fleetwood beating Arsenal rank in biggest cup upsets?

Fleetwood Town, 84 places below Arsenal in the league pyramid, knocked out the Premier League champions 5-3 on penalties in the Carabao Cup.

Arsenal suffered a shock Carabao Cup exit at Fleetwood Town, with the League Two side recording one of the biggest upsets in the competition's history. Mikel Arteta's Premier League champions lost 5-3 on penalties to a Fleetwood outfit ranked 84 places below them in the English football pyramid.

Fleetwood took the lead through Aaron Loupalo-Bi in the 21st minute before Viktor Gyokeres equalised for Arsenal after the break. Arsenal were reduced to 10 men in the 86th minute when Max Dowman was sent off. In the shootout, Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch saved Bruno Guimaraes' penalty before Conor Haughey scored the winning spot-kick to send Fleetwood to the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

BBC Sport contextualises the result among historic cup upsets, including Grimsby Town's penalty victory over Manchester United, Plymouth Argyle beating Premier League-winning Liverpool, and Bradford City's 4-2 win at Chelsea when Jose Mourinho's side were top of the Premier League.
