Why Declan Rice was not in Arsenal squad for Carabao Cup tie amid triple injury worry before Liverpool

Rice, Calafiori and Madueke all absent from Carabao Cup squad due to injuries; availability for Liverpool clash uncertain.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori and Noni Madueke were all unavailable for Tuesday's Carabao Cup penalty shootout loss to Fleetwood Town due to injuries rather than rotation.

Rice had felt a problem during the match against Fleetwood and was substituted, while Calafiori and Madueke did not feature in Monday's training session. Arteta revealed Madueke was dealing with an ankle injury. The trio's availability for Sunday's Premier League trip to Liverpool remains uncertain, with the manager to provide a further update at his pre-match press conference.
