Fariñas still interests Girona, but no contact

Girona remain interested in Barcelona midfielder Fariñas but no talks are underway; a previous deal for a 50% stake fell through when Flick decided to keep him.

Barcelona midfielder Brian Fariñas, 20, remains on Girona's radar despite no active negotiations or contact between the clubs this winter. Girona had previously advanced talks with Barcelona over a deal worth €1.5 million for a 50% stake in the player, but the move stalled when manager Hansi Flick decided to retain Fariñas and handed him the number 4 shirt after an impressive loan spell at Barcelona Atlètic, where he scored 5 goals and provided 7 assists in 33 appearances.

Fariñas has yet to feature for Barcelona's first team this season but remains a versatile option who can play across midfield and as a right-back. With injuries to Xavi Espart and Eric Garcia, he may get an opportunity to prove himself. Flick tested him in pre-season friendlies, including a 28-minute appearance at right-back against Birmingham City on 31 July. None of the three parties—Girona, Barcelona, or Fariñas himself—have ruled out a move, but no formal discussions are currently taking place.
