Amorim: 'Missing energy and clarity, the team was never comfortable'

Milan lost 4-2 to Bologna in their first league defeat under Amorim, who cited fatigue and lack of energy as key factors despite insisting injuries are not an excuse.

Milan suffered their first Serie A defeat under Ruben Amorim, losing 4-2 at home to Bologna on Saturday. Mbangula scored a hat-trick for Bologna, with an own goal from Bartesaghi also contributing, while Cisse netted twice for Milan. The San Siro crowd booed the team at full-time.

In his post-match analysis, Amorim identified a lack of energy and mental sharpness as the root cause. "From the first minute I felt tiredness and the squad wasn't the same," he said. "Even when we were ahead, I had the feeling the team wasn't comfortable. In the second half we conceded two goals very quickly." He acknowledged the injury situation but rejected it as an excuse: "Injuries are not a justification, we must simply adapt."

With the Milan derby against Inter coming up on Saturday at 20:45, Amorim said the medical team would assess players overnight. "We could recover one or two players, perhaps taking some risks," he added, with Tomás Tomori also requiring evaluation.
