Vincent Kompany released from hospital after collapsing at training

Kompany discharged after being diagnosed with meningeal irritation; expected to return to the touchline soon.

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital following his collapse during second team training on Friday. The 40-year-old Belgian was diagnosed with meningeal irritation after being admitted to hospital. Bayern's director of sport Max Eberl confirmed the discharge on Wednesday and said Kompany would rest and take medication before returning to work. "Given the circumstances, he's doing well," Eberl told German broadcaster ARD. "I am certain that he will very soon be back on the touchline, operating at 100 per cent." Kompany had been ill with a virus prior to the incident. He missed Bayern's 3-1 Bundesliga win at Freiburg on Saturday and their 6-1 DFB Pokal victory over Magdeburg on Wednesday, with Aaron Danks taking charge for both matches. Bayern sit top of the Bundesliga on goal difference, level on points with Borussia Dortmund ahead of their home clash on Saturday.
