Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital following his collapse at the club's training ground last Friday. The 40-year-old was rushed to hospital after taking ill while watching the second team train, with tests identifying meningeal irritation — an inflammation of the protective membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord — as the cause.

Max Eberl, Bayern's board member for sports, confirmed the discharge on Wednesday, saying Kompany is "doing well" given the circumstances. The club indicated on Saturday that recovery would take "weeks, not days" before the former Manchester City defender returns to the dugout. Kompany had been nursing a virus in the days before the collapse and missed some training sessions, though he was present on the touchline for Bayern's Champions League match against Arsenal on Wednesday.

English assistant coach Aaron Danks has taken over in Kompany's absence and oversaw a 3-1 win at Freiburg on Sunday. Bayern face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
