Gonzalo Villar defends Eder Sarabia's Espanyol signing amid fan controversy

Elche midfielder Villar defended Sarabia's move to Espanyol, saying the coach's record of points and promotion merits support despite fan disappointment.

Gonzalo Villar, Elche midfielder, defended Eder Sarabia's decision to join Espanyol in a press conference, urging the club's supporters to recognize the coach's achievements. Sarabia, who ended his Elche contract in June citing a need for rest and family time, has now signed with the Catalan club, sparking surprise and disappointment among some Ilicitano fans.

Villar acknowledged uncertainty about the behind-the-scenes discussions between Sarabia and Elche owner Christian Bragarnik, but emphasized that Sarabia's track record—including a points record in the top flight and securing promotion—should not be questioned. He expressed gratitude to both Sarabia, who brought him back to Elche and restored his enjoyment of football, and Bragarnik for facilitating his return. Villar wished Sarabia well at Espanyol, with the caveat of their upcoming league fixture.
