Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappé face significant fallout in China after the forward's comments describing Mao Zedong as a dictator. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has suspended LaLiga coverage entirely, rejecting apologies from both Mbappé and the club, calling his remarks offensive and beyond free speech protections.

A second platform, Migu (owned by China Mobile), will broadcast all LaLiga matches except those involving Real Madrid through 2030. The impact varies across Spanish clubs: Madrid faces the heaviest economic damage through sponsor cancellations and broadcast restrictions, while Barcelona and other LaLiga sides suffer only indirect effects. LaLiga president Javier Tebas has been in talks with China's ambassador to Spain, achieving partial results.
