Diego Simeone equalled Luis Aragonés's record for most La Liga wins as a manager on Saturday, reaching 344 victories after Atlético Madrid's win over Levante. Simeone achieved the milestone in significantly fewer matches — 565 compared to Aragonés's 765 — with 123 draws and 98 defeats in his tally.

Aragonés managed eight clubs across Spanish football between 1979 and 2004, including Atlético, Barcelona, Real Madrid's rivals, and several others. Simeone's achievement comes as Atlético seized top spot in La Liga, though Barcelona can reclaim it later the same day. The Madrid side has won their last seven league matches.

Simeone will have the chance to extend his lead and secure the title outright next weekend when Atlético host Barcelona at the Metropolitano on Sunday, 8 November. The Argentine manager is approaching 15 years in charge at Atlético and has coached 814 matches in total.
