Sampdoria fans turn on director: 'Eat well, you piece of shit'

Sampdoria director Jesper Fredberg found manure at his door with an abusive note from angry fans protesting the club's poor Serie B form.

Sampdoria fans protested against director Jesper Fredberg on Friday by leaving a pile of manure at his home, accompanied by an insulting message: 'Eat well, you piece of shit.' The action reflects growing anger over the club's disastrous sporting situation.

Sampdoria has competed in Serie B since 2023 and narrowly avoided further relegation last season. The current campaign is proving equally dire: after nine matches, the club sits 19th with just five points. Fredberg, who took over as director in July 2025, is being held directly responsible by sections of the fanbase for the team's struggles.

Fredberg previously served as CEO of Sports at Anderlecht between 2023 and 2025, overseeing sporting policy. Before that, he worked as sporting director at Danish club Viborg FF, where he became embroiled in controversy after signing Dutch 'ghost footballer' Bernio Verhagen in 2019—a fraudster who used forged documents and false contacts to deceive clubs and agents. Verhagen was later convicted in Denmark for fraud and document forgery.
