Lisandro Martinez to get transfer wish as 'five clubs register interest' in Man United star

Five European clubs including Atlético Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring the Argentine defender, who has one year left on his contract and has publicly questioned Manchester United's ambition.

Lisandro Martinez continues to attract interest from across Europe as his future at Manchester United remains uncertain. The 28-year-old Argentine has just one year remaining on his Old Trafford contract, with United holding an option to extend until June 2028, but negotiations over improved terms have stalled since his World Cup-winning first season.

Atlético Madrid and Barcelona are among the clubs keeping tabs on the defender, with Spain understood to be his preferred destination. Atlético boss Diego Simeone, who already manages four Argentina internationals, is familiar with Martinez. Italian clubs Inter Milan, Roma and Como are also monitoring his situation.

Martinez's public criticism of Manchester United's transfer strategy and director of football Jason Wilcox following the Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid has further signalled his openness to leaving. He questioned the club's ambition and investment plans in a post-match interview, though he has since apologised. United would be left with De Ligt, Maguire, Yoro and Heaven as centre-back options should he depart.
