Giráldez: "We cannot defend as badly as today"

Celta lost 3-0 away at Rayo Vallecano, their first defeat on the road this season, with Giráldez criticising his side's defensive display.

Celta de Vigo suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, with Jorge de Frutos scoring twice and Unai López adding a third. It was Celta's first away loss of the La Liga season and extends their winless run at Vallecas to over thirty years.

Manager Claudio Giráldez acknowledged the poor defensive performance in his post-match comments. "We defended badly and when you go to a stadium where many things happen, this is what occurs," he said. "We lost duels, direct play situations, we allowed Rayo to run and we didn't have superior opportunities in the area. The feeling is bad." He highlighted errors in transition defence and a lack of concentration, noting that Rayo deserved their victory with an inspired display.

Despite the setback, Giráldez pointed to Celta's strong away record prior to this match and their seven-game unbeaten run as reasons for optimism, but stressed the need for better focus and connection in difficult away fixtures.
