Simón: "This victory influences where we look at the table"

Simón made key saves in Athletic's win over Real Sociedad and said the victory helps the team look up the table after a difficult previous season.

Athletic Bilbao defeated Real Sociedad in a derby match, with goalkeeper Unai Simón playing a crucial role in the victory. Simón, who recently won the Yashin Trophy for world's best goalkeeper, made several important saves to keep Real Sociedad from scoring.

After the match, Simón spoke to DAZN about the importance of the win. He explained that his team felt obligated to win because lower-placed teams are picking up points. "Last season was very difficult because we were looking more down than up," Simón said. "Today was a very important match in that sense, and winning it influences quite a bit where we look now in the standings."

Simón also reflected on receiving the Yashin Trophy in London on Monday and the ovation he received from the San Mamés crowd. He praised the atmosphere and said the fans enjoy derbies like this one. Regarding a penalty decision involving Nico Williams, Simón said he trusted the VAR and referees' decision-making. Athletic will face Osasuna next on Saturday in the third derby of the season.
