Carrick not concerned about Martínez's attitude as United prepare for Roma visit

Carrick backs Martínez to start against Roma despite his red card at Chelsea and recent fine for comments about the club's director of football.

Michael Carrick has defended Lisandro Martínez ahead of Manchester United's Champions League visit from Roma on Tuesday, insisting the defender's commitment is not in question despite recent disciplinary issues.

Martínez was sent off in United's weekend defeat to Chelsea and was previously fined for comments directed at the club's director of football, Jason Wilcox. However, Carrick said the Argentina World Cup winner is expected to keep his place for the Roma fixture.

"I've got no concerns about commitment at all," Carrick said. "Things happen in football, sometimes you do things, sometimes you make a decision, sometimes you make mistakes, sometimes it goes well for you, but the commitment is not an issue."

United are in their worst run in 38 years without a win in nine matches and sit 21st in the Champions League league phase after defeats to Atlético Madrid and Como. Carrick will be without Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Sesko for the Roma game.
