Agent talks up handling Sunderland and Atlético's interest – Black Cats tabled offer

Lucumí's agent confirms Sunderland tabled a €30m+ offer last summer, but Bologna refused to sell before the defender joined Juventus in August.

Jhon Lucumí's agent Simone Rondanini has clarified the interest from Sunderland, Atlético Madrid, Napoli and Barcelona in his client before Juventus signed him from Bologna in August 2025.

Rondanini told AS that while multiple clubs made enquiries, only Sunderland submitted a formal bid. The Black Cats offered €30m-plus last summer as they prepared for their Premier League return, but Bologna refused to sell. Atlético Madrid came close in summer 2024 but couldn't proceed due to non-EU player restrictions after signing Conor Gallagher.

The agent stressed the difference between interest and concrete offers: "Clubs call you to get information about the price, salary, contract length, etc., and they do a kind of scouting." Lucumí ultimately stayed at Bologna before moving to Juventus, with no other viable options materialising.
